Glass Vases

These two art and craft style glass vases and the pottery jug were started several weeks ago at a session in my friends conservatory. I completed the painting at the end of 2006 in my conservatory studio. I found getting the luminous quality of the glass quite a challenge

Exploring the abstract

This abstract was about shape and colour it was done in 2004 and is acrylic on canvas textured paper. It went through several metamorphoses before completion.

A Red Abstract

Painted in in 2005 this red abstract entitled 'Hot Organics' It was painted in acrylic paint on canvas textured paper The original subject was a flower but this was soon completly lost

Studies in Red

These two studies painted in oils on canvas were exploring the tonal qualities of red and were completed in November and December 2006 in Barbara Sewell's studio. The subject is the same arrangements but painted from different angles

Summer in the Garden

I had been admiring this pot for some time and eventually decided to paint it during one hot summer morning session in Marc and Barbara's garden. It's acrylic on canvas paper.

Clay jugs

2003 painting in the Guildenburgh Gallery this small acrylic painting of a group of clay jugs was cropped from a much larger painting and was the inspiration for a abstract painting below entitled 'Interspace'. The jugs have virtually disappeared from the final piece

Tulips, Begonias and Poppies

Painted in acrylic on canvas paper these pictures of flowers were done in 2002 in the Sewells studio. The poppies are owned by my friend Nancy in Canada

Torso 2003

This oil on canvas paper was completed in the Sewells studio. The torso was displayed on the studio wall and was a piece of sculpture created by Marc Sewell. The painting is now owned by Addy

Candle, Bowl and Chinese Lanterns 2002

This small still life group was painted in oil on canvas paper during a couple of sessions in my friend Prue's studio. The bowl was hand turned from an unusual piece of wood

The original painting from which this oil study was taken was a landscape painted on location in watercolour.

More watercolours

These two small water colour studies were done last year, 2005, after a long abstinence from using this medium. I found remembering the techniques quite challenging after the use of acrylic and oil. Both pictures now belong to my friend Nancy in Canada.

Watercolour 2001

The top painting was done in my Studio after a visit to Corbier Lighthouse on Jersey in 2001 and the bottom painting from a series of paintings done on location at Grange Farm Equestian Center This one was painted in late March and dispite the sunshine it was cold

These are two more portaits of Edmund and Grace. Done in 2003/4 and again one was pencil and one in oils.

Portraiture 2002

I started drawing my Dad in 2001 to help me 'find' him again. When he died in 1980 I was away in Canada and unable to get home. I never felt I'd grieved properly for him.
It's drawn with pencil on cartridge paper.
I first painted Mum in 2002, in oils on canvas paper and it was my first excursion in attempting portraits in oils. This was painted after a holiday in Jersey where my Dad had died whilst on holiday with her. It was Mums first trip back to Jersey and to her suprised she enjoyed the holiday

Black and White

Done at the Guildenburgh gallery in 2003 these were two mono chrome works, one in pencil exploring tonal values and the bottles in acrylic a devilish exercise where the bottles were changed every 10 minutes then the composition was put together from quick sketches.

Red Shoes, painted at our sesions in the Guildenburgh Art Gallery in 2003 I used acrylic paint and a palete Knife.

Study in Red and Stone Jars

Our little painting group arrived at the Guildenburgh gallery one morning in 2002 to find a group of red objects set up for us to paint as a tonal study. I decided , unusually for me, to crop into the group. The painting was done in acrylic and was selected for the South Holland Open Arts and the Peterborough Open Arts Exhibition.

This still life group of stone jars was in painted acrylic in 2003 in the studio of Marc and Barbara Sewell . The painting was also selected for the Peterborough Open Arts and the South Holland open Arts Exhibition.

Green Apples

This study of a tray of cooking apples was painted in 2002 using acrylic paint on canvas textured paper. My friend Prue and I use to paint in the Guildenburgh Art Gallery of our city before it sadly closed down. The painting is now owned by my 'honorary daughter' Nancylee who lives in Canada.

Watery Watercolours

These are two watercolours painted on location in The Nene Valley at Ferry Meadows. When I paint 'in the field' I prefer to use watercolours. These were painted on excursions with my friend Prue in the summer of 2001. When painting in my 'Studio' (I use the word tongue in cheek) I prefer to use acrylic or water soluble oil paint. The top picture is owned by my son and daughter in law and the bottom painting is owned by my friend Nancy in Canada. They both prefer very literal subjects.

On the Water

This oil on canvas paper painting was inspired by a photograph in a 2004 'Cambridge Pride' magazine of yatchs on Grafham water. The painting became too literal and was not how I wanted it to be, disillusioned I put it away. Sorting through some of my old paintings I came across it again and felt ready to work on it further. So I pull it out and painted on. It's now more impressionist which is the effect I wanted. I'm now much happier with the finished results.
